I hope so! All the stuff with Griselda in VIII definitely makes me think they'll start delving into that, especially as this game apparently takes place at a prison.

Honestly, assuming there are no horrible delays this game is going to be out sooner than I would expect... I'm not going to complain! =P.

IT always befuddles me that people care so much about Adol, he's a silent protagonist with little more personality than 'adventure/explore/hero'. Not to mention Ys Origin is still my fave Ys game. Not BECAUSE it didn't have Adol mind you (bonus character in boss rush doesn't count), but for other reasons. Not having Adol in it didn't hurt the game one bit IMO though.

That said I feel like the girl on the cover of this one looks quite a bit like the 'natural' shapeshifty version of a spoiler character in 8 though, probably just the hooded outfit mostly but it's still a bit of a coincidence IMO.

Maybe it's like imagining a Legend of Zelda game with no Link? I'd probably still play it, but it'd feel really weird and even kind of wrong.

Ys is always a good time with the gameplay and music, so I look forward to learning more about this game. Like the concept art and everything I've seen so far.

As for the Kiseki comment, I would joke about how it will be bait for Cold Steel 3 localization confirmed, but at this point it feels like a more Niche half life 3 thing that anything is confirmation. I'm going to guess that we will get a teaser for where the next series will take place. Of course, Key word being "might".

As for Adol, I'm fine either way with how his role plays out in Ys. He is the MC in pretty much all the games except Origin, but I wouldn't be weirded out if he didn't play a huge role. That said, didn't VIII start out with teasers not showing Adol and more of Dana?

Development is already 50% complete, it seems, if this is accurate. I'm not sure what they mean by the 'guild operations' being an expanded version of Ys VIII's 'Drifting Village' system. Do they refer to raids and strengthening of a base? Or...that you recruit members somewhat similarly to how you found survivors in VIII?

Personally I think it will either be an announcement of a sequel to Ys vs Sora no Kiseki, since it was, from what I remember, an easy project for them to do (it took them only about one year of development iirc?), or maybe a one-off Trails game before he next Arc, maybe something like Trails in the Sky the 3rd where they set up things to come and focus on somethings they haven't up 'till now. Of course, these are just my guesses.

I want ToCS 3/4 badly in the west, but I fully support Falcom milking either series like an effing cow if they think it's easy to do so provided they maintain the quality of their last release.

Can't really speak for anyone else, I just really like Adol as a silent protag, and very much enjoy the whole conceit of the series following the journeys of this singularly trouble-attracting dude who just enjoys the adventure. One of my big complaints with Ys VIII is actually how much Falcom gave Adol a voice in that (they officially crossed the line of "too much voice" in my mind there). But at the same time, I really like characters like Dana and Yunica as protags, too, so Ys obviously still *works* with more characterized, non-Adol protagonists, so I guess I wouldn't mind whichever way they go with IX (personally I hope they do a mix like with VIII, but maybe with the Adol portions of the game being the solo stuff and a parallel plot following an ensemble with party combat).

As for localization, my suspicion is that Falcom is gonna get NISA to do Ys again (hopefully this time they can get a decent script done the first time, now that they have a better idea what they're getting into with Falcom and Ys fans) while XSEED is busy with CS3/4.

I just found out Tom and Brittany had left XSEED shortly after reading the Ys IX announcement. I am not sure how the future of Falcom-XSEED partnership will look like...

I don't think it's nearly as bad as you think. Tom was an Ys fan, true, but he wasn't really involved on the Trails side of things (nor was he especially passionate about that). Brittany's departure is a much bigger loss from the Trails side (though not so much from the Ys side), but a lot of her work is still there at XSEED to make any future Trails localizations easier.

So while I do think NISA will continue to handle Ys releases for the foreseeable future, I think Trails is still firmly in XSEED's ballpark.

I wonder if Tom decided to time his leave with Sony moving their PS HQ to California and going on a mad censoring extravaganza.

There is a big chance it was what pushed him to it yes, but he had been planning of going to Japan for a long time already.

I'd still love to know why Brittany was let go when she was. Seemed a complete surprise to her on the timing.

On topic, I agree, neither departure means much for Ys IX, but it is a shame nonetheless.

Did she get let go or did she leave? I was under the impression she left at her own volition.

Tom definitely left of his volition since it was a thing at least a year in the making, but if Brittany did as well, it was a VERY sudden decision on her part. She was still in the middle of her blog posts about Mysteria (Which never got finished. The blog posts, that is, where she had just started talking about the characters in turns, intending at that point to talk about all of them. She even had a reference to 'next time' in the last post on October 19th...but next time never came because she was gone from Xseed on Oct 26th.), she didn't have any job lined up...right after she posted that she was no longer with Xseed, she posted asking for people to let her know of anything available in her field. Nothing that happened then gave me the impression she left by her own choice, but I never heard her say one way or the other.

Though either way it was very sudden, whether it was her choice, theirs, or both, so...no way to know.

The fact she's still running around looking for a job is pretty telling. Well, a stable job, she's freelancing atm.

If you read the tea leaves, as Kikki mentions, Tom was on his way out of his own volition but the timing was moved up by quite a bit.

My pet theory is that Xseed lost out on a bid or more and had to cut costs. Yes, that means I fear that CS3+4 are with NISA.
