ah, sure, send it to me. i lurk other sections for that hot FALCOM news so it'll be good to have a discord server filled with mega fans

large scale chatrooms are just different than a forum structure. i hate having to navigate them for news or discussions, esp when you have a bunch of people talking a lot. i don't mind smaller fan ones or like with you guys because it's w/e but otherwise i'm out.

I mean most of the important bits are published on a channel just for announcement and news that can't be posted in.

that's assuming all pertinent info is posted in there. nevermind shit like sharing an account across multiple servers along with icons, usernames, statuses, etc.

no, i already don't like discord, but i'm not a fan of the shift towards it company-wise either even if i understand why it's done.

EDIT: I've mentioned it before, but if it wasn't for the fact you guys are mostly active on it, I wouldn't use discord at all. I'm not a huge fan of it, both as software and as a community management tool - this is on top of me already disliking live chat type things.

Like I joined the "Orange Island" discord to get info since I'm a backer, and when I first logged in I saw this

And I have just zero desire to deal with that many people in an active chat.

I'm an old man, Scyth. I don't know what being "hella lit" or "yeet" even mean. I'm stuck in 2006-2012 era internet. Please, understand.

I wonder if there's a way to transfer this thread to our or someone's own free forum or whatever

I wonder if this has to do with people complaining about lack of communication / lack of release date(I think release date is announced now though) about granblue fantasy versus which XSeed is publishing and seemingly delayed because of licensing issues(I'm not sure what the specific issue I saw someone speculate about was) or whatever, many people imported the JP version and HK version instead though those were probably going to come a lot sooner anyways, I think HK version might have english menus, not sure what else

This being the reason XSeed would make a discord, is something that came to mind as a possibility

Get with the times, old man!

Anyways I think it's perfectly valid not to like live text platforms but at least for me, it doesn't make a dime's worth of difference.

I think the date was already there when I checked yesterday, but it's weird how soon it is. I guess they're just done with hosting this beast.

It wouldn't surprise me if this is an additional reasoning, but I doubt it's the reason. More or less, it's just easier, cheaper, and less problems to host a discord server.

Just decided to make note of it since it said "[DATE]" instead when it was initially put up.

I wouldn't be so sure with points 1 and 3. XSEED was never great with moderation on the forums, and things are slower paced here than on a Discord server. They did say they wouldn't be flat out opposed to community moderators on Discord, but if they don't do that, it's entirely possible that the speed of conversations could overwhelm them.

    That's hilarious and sad.

I meant moreso from a back-end perspective, instead of dealing with ancient forum software they inherited from a dead MMO company. There's no server, hosting, or high level security they really need to manage since all of that is on Discord's end.

Likewise for any accessibility or easy updates on users' end.

See: The forums aren't setup on HTTPS at all, which is an abysmal state of affairs for a website in 2020 especially considering it's free to do.

I would not say that, I think this was a great place in it's prime.

I mean, the community, yeah (most of the time, at least *looks at Tilinelson*), but between the hacks, the Viagra, and the slow moderation (which became worse when Tom left), it was far from perfect.

I assume I'm being surveiled by 10,000 international and possibly intergalactic organizations because of the lack of HTTPS

wait I guess that happened with HTTPS too... fucked up... what can you do...

    Oh.

I knew it was inevitable, but I really wasn't emotionally prepared for it to be this soon. I know XSEED forums have their own history and those over there in those sections probably have their own feelings on this. But this is also the death of the AO legacy. It officially made it ten years, but ten was all it had. This is really it.

I need some time to think.

I started reading posts from 2011 and now I'm crying a lot.
I think I'm going to go to bed.

Do you have outside contact info? I mean, if you want. No pressure, or anything like that.

Okay. I am being dumb here but, is it possible for Xseed to just abandon this site and let everyone just post stuff to it instead of closing it down?
