It's past time a western company attempted to get rights for Ever17. I'm surprised even companies like JAST USA and Mangagamer haven't made a move, either.

Oh please please, I would but the crap out of this on Steam. I love 999 and I'm playing through VLR at the moment, and I need more!

I hope it happens. But I still wonder who would be in charge of the retranslation, cause it really needs one.

No clue. It wouldn't be XSEED or Aksys, so maybe it's MangaGamer or JAST USA?

I know it has nothing to do with the subject here, but what happened with the rumored non-Ys game XSEED would release on Steam?

The whole mystery remains. And it's even more than a non-Ys game, it's a non-Falcom game! *shivers*

I'm sure it's Corpse Party, but if it's not... I hope we're in it for a pleasant surprise. Anyway, I've finally started playing Ever17, I'm excited that I can feel this will be just as good as 999.

If you want to turn me down on a game just say it is like 999.

What exactly turned you down off with 999?

For those who've finished Ever17 and VLR, am I the only one who...

thinks that both have pretty similar plot twists (e.g. different timeline than the one you initially thought, the plot twist about what the main character really looks like, etc.)? It's the reason why I prefer 999 over VLR, because the twists were "fresh" in a way that really caught me off guard.

FYI, I played 999 first, Ever17 second, then VLR last. Maybe that's why VLR wasn't that memorable for me, but it is still a great game.

    You experienced the Uchikochi effect.

Most of the puzzles are boring, just click here, then there. Game paths are decided by choosing doors, so the whole gameplay and mechanics are pretty bland, even for a VN.

As for the plot, some endings are okay, the premise is interesting, and some bits of story development are well played, but the "true ending" wraps everything up in the worst possible fashion with a trainwreck of absurdities. I didn't like it, it was the worst game I have played in years.

Oh, Ever17 is a straight-up visual novel. I think it doesn't do what turned you off in 999. I'd give it a shot if I were you, even if the existing translation is very lackluster.
